The SUNY Oneonta volleyball team came away even from the Bomber Invitational at Ithaca this weekend. The Red Dragons split its four matches, winning its two matches on day one, but dropping a pair of matches today. Oneonta is now 5-3 overall through the first two weekends of the season.
Oneonta swept through both Cazenovia and Baptist Bible last night. Sophomore
Jill Darpino (Endicott/Union Endicott) led the attack with a combined 24 kills and a hitting percentage of just under .500. Her cumulative performance over the four matches earned her a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Darpino also collected 17 digs in the two matches.
In the Cazenovia match, freshman
Jessica Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) had 16 assists to fuel the attack. Against Baptist Bible, sophomore
Karly Greco (East Patchogue/Bellport) led the team with 17 assists. Sophomore
Lauren Pennino (Wantagh/Wantagh) led Oneonta with six blocks for the two matches.
In today's two matches, The Red Dragons fell in four sets to Widener and Union. Darpino had 22 kills, 14 digs and four block assists. Junior
Becca Horton (Owego/Owego Free Academy) collected 37 assists. Senior Kristen Pelaccio led the defense with 45 digs.Â
Jessica Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) had 15 assists and five aces against Union.
Oneonta will be at the Union College Invitational next weekend. The two-day tournament begins on Friday afternoon. The Red Dragons will face Williams College at 4pm in its opener before taking on Nazareth at 8pm.
