The SUNY Oneonta volleyball team competed at the Union College Invitational this weekend and came away with a 2-2 record. Oneonta dropped its first two matches of the tournament on Friday before bouncing back yesterday with a pair of victories. The Red Dragons are now 7-5 overall through the first three weekends of the season.
In its opening match on Friday, the Red Dragons were swept by Williams College (22-25, 12-25, 17-25). Sophomore
Jill Darpino (Endicott/Union Endicott) led Oneonta with six kills. Junior
Becca Horton (Owego/Owego Free Academy) had 10 assists and senior
Kristina Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) recorded 13 digs.
Oneonta fell in four sets to Nazareth in its final match on Friday (19-25, 18-25, 25-20, 18-25). Sophomore
Hannah O'Neil (Brookhaven/Bellport) and senior
Erica Darpino (Endicott/Union-Endicott) each collected seven kills to lead Oneonta. Horton led the Red Dragons with 14 assists while Pelaccio had 18 digs.
Erica Darpino (Endicott/Union-Endicott) had 12 kills in Oneonta's three-set sweep of Hartwick to begin Saturday (25-16, 25-21, 25-19). Freshman
Jessica Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) fueled the attack with 18 assists while her sister Kristina had 18 digs.
In the final match of the tournament, Oneonta defeated Skidmore in four sets (25-11, 23-25, 25-19, 25-17).Â
Erica Darpino (Endicott/Union-Endicott) had 10 kills and seven blocks while classmate
Bridget McHugh (New Hyde Park/Herricks) collected nine kills and five blocks. Horton had 22 assists and four service aces.Â
Kristina Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) had 15 kills and three aces.
The Red Dragons will host Scranton in a dual match on Tuesday beginning at 7pm.
