After dropping the first set, 25-11, the SUNY Oneonta volleyball team rallied to win the next three sets to defeat Scranton University tonight at home, 3-1 (11-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-23). The Red Dragons are now 8-5 overall while the Royals fall to 4-10.
In the second set, the two squads battled tightly with neither team holding more than a two-point lead at any point in the set. With the score tied at 20 apiece, Oneonta scored the final five points to take the second set.
The Red Dragons were in control throughout the third set en route to the 10-point win.
In the fourth set, Oneonta jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead before the Royals battled back to tie the score at nine apiece. Scranton held a 15-11 lead before Oneonta ran off five unanswered points to go ahead 16-15. Six ties and five lead changes later, Oneonta prevailed 25-23 to take the match.
Senior
Erica Darpino (Endicott/Union-Endicott) paced the attack with seven kills and four blocks. Junior
Becca Horton (Owego/Owego Free Academy) fueled the offense with 14 assists. Freshman
Jessica Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) had a team high three service aces while her sister Kristina Peleccio led the defensive effort with 15 digs.
Oneonta will be at St. John Fisher College on Saturday for a one-day quad event. The Red Dragons will face the host Cardinals and Brockport.
