The SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team came home with a split this weekend of a pair of matches against SUNYAC East foes Plattsburgh and New Paltz. The Red Dragons swept Plattsburgh on Friday 9-0, but were swept on Saturday against New Paltz.
Against Plattsburgh, Oneonta (1-1) surrendered only 24 games and won all the singles matches in straight sets.
Oneonta began the match with a sweep of the doubles. The closest match was at second doubles where seniors
Colette Lankowicz (Sayville/Sayville) and
Emily Maggiore (Binghamton/Binghamton) prevailed 8-3 over Meghan Ryan and Sarah Drexinger.
Senior
Lauren Skolnick (Sayville/Sayville) and junior
Brynn Sussman (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) won 8-0 at first doubles and
Olivia Stauffer (Huntington/Harborfields) and
Abigail Smith (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) won 8-2 at third doubles.
Sussman, Maggiore, Skolnick and Lankowicz came back and won their singles matches from first to fourth respectively. Sophomore
Michelle Spencer (Homer/Homer) had the most exciting match as she won the first set 6-3 and battled in the second to come out victorious 7-5. Classmate
Riane Reithel (Penfield/Webster Schroeder) defeated Jacqueline Ciriello 6-2, 6-1 to claim the 6th singles match.
