NEWBURGH, N.Y. - The SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team took approximately two hours to sweep through Mount Saint Mary College yesterday 9-0. The win for the Red Dragons moves them to 2-1overall.
In winning yesterday's match, Oneonta surrendered only 13 games and won all the singles matches in straight sets.
Oneonta began the match with a sweep of the doubles. The first doubles duo,
Lauren Skolnick (Sayville/Sayville) and
Brynn Sussman (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury), started the afternoon off with a 8-1 win over Jaimee Lubniewski and Katie Conroy.
Emily Maggiore (Binghamton/Binghamton) and
Colette Lankowicz (Sayville/Sayville) followed suit at second doubles winning 8-2 while
Olivia Stauffer (Huntington/Harborfields) and
Abigail Smith (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) won 8-1 at third doubles.
Sussman, Maggiore, Skolnick and Lankowicz came back and played singles for Oneonta. Sussman won at first singles, Maggiore at second singles, Skolnick won 6-0, 6-0 in third singles and Lankowicz won at fourth singles.
Michelle Spencer (Homer/Homer) and
Riane Reithel (Penfield/Webster Schroeder) rounded out the singles wins. Spencer took the fourth singles win 6-0, 6-1 while Reithel won at sixth singles 6-0, 6-2.
Oneonta will be back in action this Friday, September 13th, when they travel to play Brockport for a 4:00 p.m. start.
