Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey edges out Hamilton in home opener 4-3

Oneonta, N.Y. – Three goals in the first half and an insurance goal in the second earned SUNY Oneonta field hockey the win over Hamilton College 4-3 in their home opener.

Oneonta (3-0) got on the board early as they scored :57 seconds in to the game. Sophomore Sara Rattigan (Stormville/Carmel) was able to tip a Chelsea Remling (Mahopac/Lakeland) shot that she took after picking up the loose ball off a turnover.

The Red Dragons would add two more additional goals to take a 3-1 lead into the intermission. Andrea Day (Greene/Greene) passed a penalty corner to Ashley Morgan (Putnam Valley/Putnam Valley) at the top of the striking circle, who played the ball to Remling. Remling hit a one time shot toward the goal that Kelcy Forbragd (Camden/Camden) tipped past the goalkeeper. Morgan would score the game's third goal when she picked up a deflected pass and hit a screamer to the back post before Hamilton's goalkeeper, Victoria Trentini, could react.

The Continentals got on the board in with two minutes remaining when Emma Anderson received a pass back from Gabriele Lenihan off her own penalty corner to tuck it by Oneonta's goalkeeper, Tess Tracy (Liverpool/Liverpool).

Forbragd would open up the second half with her second goal, and team leading third on the season, just two minutes into play. Day was once again the set up person as she sent a pass across the circle to Forbragd, who scored to the far post.

Hamilton (0-1) stepped up the pressure and scored two of their own to cut the Red Dragon lead to 4-3. Sam Sherman was the recipient of a goal off a beautifully set up penalty corner and Eva Rosencrans would score off a deflected save.

The Red Dragons would hold on as the Continentals had two penalty corners in the last three minutes of the game. A game saving stop by Tracy, who pushed the ball high into the air was cleared down the field and time would expire before Hamilton could get back down the field.

Oneonta outshot the Continentals 17-12. Hamilton held a slight advantage in penalty corners 13-10.

Tracy made four saves in the game and her counterpart Trentini, made eleven.

Oneonta will be in action again this Saturday, Sept. 7th, when they host the University of Rochester. Game time is slated for 2:00 p.m.
