The SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team defeated cross-town rival Hartwick 9-0 today. The Red Dragons improve their overall record to 6-2.
Onenta swept through the doubles portion of the match to jump out to a 3-0 lead. The duo of
Lauren Skolnick (Sayville/Sayville) and
Brynn Sussman (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) won at first doubles, 8-2, while seniors
Emily Maggiore (Binghamton/Binghamton) and Colette Lankowiccz took second doubles by the same score.
Abigail Smith (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) paired up with sophomore
Kelly Gochan (Lake Grove/Sachem North) to win at third doubles 8-3.
Sussman, Maggiore and Lankowicz turned around and competed at first through third singles. Sussman and Maggiore forced third set tie breaks after taking the first set and falling in set two. Lankowicz dropped only three games in her two sets.
Michelle Spencer (Homer/Homer) won 6-3, 6-1 at fourth singles. Senior
Jenna Conklin (Wilton/Saratoga Springs) picked up her first collegiate singles victory at fifth singles with 6-0, 6-3 win and
Riane Reithel (Penfield/Webster Schroeder) won in three sets 6-2, 6-7 and 10-8 at sixth singles.
The Red Dragons will be in action again this Saturday, September 28 as they host Farmingdale State at 1:00 p.m.
