The SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team didn't waste much time in defeating Oswego on the road yesterday 9-0. The Red Dragons improve their record to 5-2, while the Lakers fall to 1-3.
In winning yesterday's match, Oneonta surrendered only 28 games.
Oneonta began the match with a sweep of the doubles. The duo of
Lauren Skolnick (Sayville/Sayville) and
Brynn Sussman (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) defeated Haley Miller and Olivia Knierman, 8-0, moving their season record to 5-2.
Emily Maggiore (Binghamton/Binghamton) teamed with
Kelly Gochan (Lake Grove/Sachem North) won 8-1 at second doubles. At third doubles, the team of seniors
Jenna Conklin (Wilton/Saratoga Springs) and
Abigail Smith (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) defeated Becca Zoeller and Hannah Rawlings, 8-2.
Sussman, Maggiore and Gochan came back and won first through third singles, respectively, conceding six games between the three of them.Â
The most exciting match of the afternoon was at fifth singles, where Oneonta's freshman
Kayla Houle (Apalachin/Owego Free Academy) and Oswego's junior, Lauren Stall, went to a third set tie break to decide the winner. Houle won the first 6-0, but fell in the second set 6-4 before prevailing in the tie break 10-8 for her first victory of Red Dragon tennis career .
Michelle Spencer (Homer/Homer) won at fourth singles, 6-0 and 6-1 while
Christine Santarsiero (Rye Brook/Blind Brook) won at sixth singles by the score 6-1 in both sets.
Oneonta will be in action again on Thursday, September 26th when they travel to cross-town rival Hartwick for a match set to start at 4:00 p.m.
