SUNY Oneonta dominates New Paltz 19-8

Red Dragons use balance to defeat Hawks

Box Score Oneonta, N.Y. – The SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse had nine players score at least one goal en route to a 19-8 victory at home over New Paltz in SUNYAC action this afternoon. Sophomores Kiera McNally (East Northport/Northport) and Jillian Donodeo (Holbrook/Sachem East) led the Red Dragons with 6 and 5 goals respectively.

Oneonta (8-6/3-3) would take the lead three different times in the opening fifteen minutes of play, but New Paltz (4-7/0-5) would answer right back to tie the game.

Chelsea Collins (St. James/Smithtown East) got Oneonta on the board just over one minute into play on an unassisted goal and New Paltz's Lianne Valdivia responded with a goal 40 seconds later. The pattern continued as McNally scored her first of the afternoon and Erin Tornatore answered right back. A pair of goals by Donodeo game the Red Dragons a 4-2 advantage. Goals 10 seconds apart by Carissa Citro and Valdivia tied the game once again at 4-4.

The Red Dragons finally broke the game open, rattling off five unanswered goals in a ten-minute span to take a 9-4 lead.  McNally had two of her six during this time. Nicole Fioretti, Caroline Tulley (Malverne/Sacred Heart Academy) and Donodeo scored the other three. Nicole Boylan (Massapequa/Massapequa) closed out the first half with an unassisted goal to give Oneonta a 10-5 lead at the halftime break.

The second half saw much of the same domination as the first with Oneonta scoring nine more goals.  Allison McClain (Wantagh/Wantagh), Casey Sarle (West Islip/West Islip) and Randal Cook (Northport/Northport) each had goals in the half to provide the offensive fire power for the Red Dragons.

Chelsea Collins (St. James/Smithtown East) dished out 4 assists, two from behind the goal, and Tulley upped her team lead to 27 with 2 more in the game. Oneonta finished with a 39-15 advantage in shots and doubled up the Hawks in ground balls, 43-21.

Oneonta will be in action again this Saturday when they host SUNY Geneseo in a match beginning at 1:00pm.
