A late run by the SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team fell short tonight at Oswego, as the Red Dragons lost 79-75.  Oneonta (4-20/3-14) will end its season this Friday night at New Paltz while Oswego (17-6/10-6) will play a pair of games this weekend, as they battle for one of the six SUNYAC playoff spots.

Oneonta trailed 76-63 with 2:57 remaining in the contest before scoring seven unanswered to cut the Lakers' lead to 76-70.  Sean Michele made a pair of free throws with 29 seconds left before to bring the lead back to eight points at 78-70.  Freshman Jack Dignan (Brewster/Brewster) was fouled on a three-point attempt and converted all three foul shots to get the Red Dragons closer with 11 seconds remaining.

After Hayden Ward missed the front end of a 1-and-1, sophomore Frankie Kelly (Brewster/Kennedy Catholic) made a lay-up to get Oneonta to within three points with four seconds left.  Michele made one of two free throws to ice the game and secure the victory.

Ward led all scorers and rebounders with 33 points and 18 rebounds.

Sophomore Zach Mager (New City/Clarkstown South) led four Oneonta players in double figures with 21 points.  Junior Dan Lee (Ballston Lake/Shenendehowa) and freshman Jackson Zuvic (Cold Spring/Haldane) each scored 17 points while Kelly added 12 points.

The two teams battled closely throughout the opening half.  A three-point basket by Mager jump started a 11-0 run that gave the Red Dragons a 29-22 lead with 8:31 to go in the first half.  Oswego outscored Oneonta 18-9 over the final eight minutes to carry a 40-38 lead into the break.
