Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey wins thriller in overtime at Utica

The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team travelled to Utica College today for a non-league game and won an overtime thriller 4-3 in the first overtime. Ashley Morgan (Putnam Valley/Putnam Valley) would play the hero as she scored the game winner at the 83:18 mark. Morgan dribbled the ball through three defenders before putting it past the UC goalie in the right side of the goal. Oneonta improves to 12-6 while Utica falls to 13-4.

The Pioneers struck first at the 10:24 mark off a penalty corner. Colleen Dowling took the pass fro Angela Charles and put the shot past starting goalie, Tess Tracy (Liverpool/Liverpool).

It didn't take long for the Red Dragons to respond as they netted their first just over a minute later. Junior Andrea Day (Greene/Greene) broke around her defender and slotted a ball to classmate Kelcy Forbragd (Camden/Camden), who hammered the ball into the goal to tie the game.

Utica would score six minutes later to take a 2-1 lead into the halftime break.

Oneonta came out with vigor as Day scored her 15th goal of the season off an assist from Morgan. Day took the initial penalty corner and passed to Morgan. Morgan maneuvered the ball around before passing back to Day for the finish.

Erin Butler (Walton/Walton) would give the Red Dragons the lead 3-2 as Sara Rattigan (Stormville/Carmel) passed it forward sending Butler in on a breakaway. One move around the goalie and Butler would score her seventh of the season.

With less than four minutes to go in the game, the Pioneers responded to tie the score and send it in to overtime on a goal by Louise Steele-Norton.

The Red Dragons' goalies, Tracy and Krista Servedio (Shrub Oak/Lakeland), combined to make 8 saves in the game. Servedio picked up her fifth win of the season.

The game was evenly played as each team took 14 shots. Utica held a slight advantage in penalty corners 10-7.

Oneonta plays their final regular season game of the season before heading to the SUNYAC tournament when they travel to RPI on Saturday, Nov. 2 for a game to begin at 2 p.m.
