Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball closes out SUNYAC play

The SUNY Oneonta women's volleyball team completed its 2013 conference schedule today with a 3-1 loss to Fredonia.  Yesterday, the Red Dragons dropped matches to host SUNY Geneseo and Plattsburgh by identical scores.  Oneonta (13-18/2-7) failed to qualify for the SUNYAC tournament in the first year of a single division conference.

In their opening match yesterday against Geneseo, Oneonta won the first set before dropping three straight for the 3-1 loss.  Sophomore Jill Darpino (Endicott/Union Endicott) was the leader with 14 kills to go with a pair of blocks.  Junior Becca Horton (Owego/Owego Free Academy) had 23 assists while senior Kristina Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) had 20 digs to lead the Red Dragons.

Against Plattsburgh last night, Oneonta fell behind 2-0 before taking the third set, but dropped the fourth set in its 3-1 defeat.  Senior Erica Darpino (Endicott/Union-Endicott) registered double-digits in kills with 13 to go with four blocks.  Sophomore Karly Greco (East Patchogue/Bellport) led with 21 assists.  Freshman Jessica Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) had a team high four aces while her sister, Kristina, had 18 digs in the match.

Today versus Fredonia, Oneonta once again won the first set, but dropped the next three sets.  Sophomore Hannah O'Neil (Brookhaven/Bellport) registered 12 kills to lead the Red Dragons.  Freshman Paige Carpluk (Yaphank/Bellport) contributed seven kills and 11 digs.  Erica Darpino (Endicott/Union-Endicott) was the leader with six blocks while Kristina Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) had 20 digs to lead the team.

Oneonta will closeout its regular season this week.  They are at The Sage Colleges on Tuesday night before ending the season at home next Friday and Saturday, as they host the Dig Pink Invitational.
