The SUNY Oneonta wrestling team closed out King's College in dual-meet action tonight at home 27-16.  Despite splitting the 10 bouts, Oneonta recorded three pins and had one forfeit for 24 of its 27 points.  Oneonta is now 6-8 in dual matches while King's falls to 4-8.

Freshman Jamie Scarantino earned King's a 13-3 major decision at 125 lbs. over Oneonta freshman Zachary Aal (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills) to begin the match.

Oneonta bounced right back at 133 lbs. when junior co-captain, Ben Mikac (Williamsville/Williamsville East), pinned Jose Paramo in 1:47 to give the Red Dragons a 6-4 advantage.

DeMarquis Holley then recorded a 6-2 decision over freshman Curt Rowley (Duanesburg/Duanesburg) at 141 lbs. to give the Monarchs the lead back at 7-6.

After a forfeit by King's at 149 lbs., junior co-captain Dan Graff (LaGrangeville/Arlington) came up with a pin in the final 30 seconds of his bout versus Nathaniel Seals to give the Red Dragons a commanding 18-7 lead.

King's won the next two weight classes to pull back to 18-13.  Tommy Desir and Ahmed Burton won decisions at 165 and 174 lbs. respectively.

Freshman Jared Usher (Manorville/Eastport Southmanor) gave Oneonta an eight-point lead with a decision at 184 lbs. before junior Chad Obzud (Cohoes/Lansingburgh) put the match out of reach with his 15th pin of the season.  Obzud is amongst the leaders in pins in Division III.

Pete Dwyer closed the match with a 6-2 decision over Jake Smith (St. James/Smithtown) for the final of 27-16.

Oneonta will be off until next Thursday, Feb. 7 when they will be at nationally ranked Ithaca College for a dual-meet beginning at 7pm.
