SUNY Oneonta sophomore Zach Mager (New City/Clarkstown South) scored a team high 22 points, but a second half rally came up short tonight against rival SUNY Cortland 64-54.  The loss for Oneonta drops them to 2-13 overall and 1-8 in the SUNYAC while Cortland moves to 13-3 overall and 7-2 in conference play.

Oneonta trailed by 16 points after a Kevin McMahon basket gave Cortland a 43-27 lead at the 14:33 mark of the second half.  Oneonta then put together a 15-2 run over the next four minutes to cut the lead to 45-42.  A three-point basket by senior Terrence Parker (Queens/John Adams) capped the run.

Cortland's lead was still three points with just over five minutes remaining before pulling away.  A 9-0 run by the visitors put the game out of reach with 2:39 left.  Senior Jeremy Smith capped the run and finished the game with 14 points.

Senior Jesse Winter scored a team high 17 points to lead Cortland.  McMahon scored 16 points and grabbed a game high 11 boards.

Freshman Jack Dignan (Brewster/Brewster) was the only other player in double figures for Oneonta with 14 points.

Oneonta led early 12-5 thanks to a pair of three-pointers by Dignan.  Dignan scored 11 points in the first half to lead all scorers.

Cortland battled back to tie the score and take the lead with nine unanswered points.  The run was capped by a dunk, as junior Kevin McMahon threw one down.  McMahon had six points and six rebounds in the opening half.

The men will travel to the Rochester area this weekend to take on SUNY Geneseo on Friday night and Brockport on Saturday afternoon.
