Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball completes first SUNYAC East play 1-3

The SUNY Oneonta volleyball team entered this past weekend's SUNYAC East pool play at SUNY Cortland riding an eight match winning streak and returned home 1-3 for its efforts during the two-day event.  Oneonta is now 12-5 overall and in fourth place in the SUNYAC East Division with one more, round robin weekend remaining in October at New Paltz.

Oneonta opened its weekend last Friday with a pair of losses to SUNY Potsdam and the host Red Dragons.  Oneonta was swept in three versus Potsdam while falling to Cortland in four sets.

The lone highlight in the Potsdam match was 18 digs by junior Kristina Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson).

Against Cortland, senior Brittany Calvello (Gloversville/Broadalbin-Perth) recorded her third triple double of the year with 11 kills, 15 assists and 19 digs.  Classmate Kacy Boburka (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) added 10 kills and 13 digs while Pelaccio had 15 digs.

Juniors Erica Darpino (Endicott/Union-Endicott) and Bridget McHugh (New Hyde Park/Herricks) were strong at the net with six and five blocks respectively.

On Saturday, Oneonta split its two matches.  The Red Dragons defeated Plattsburgh in four sets, but fell to New Paltz in three sets.

Versus Plattsburgh, Boburka led three players in double digits for kills with 15.  Calvello had her fourth triple double of the season with 10 kills, 21 assists and 10 digs.  Pelaccio had a career high 28 digs to lead the defense.

Oneonta will have this weekend off before getting back into action on Friday, Oct. 5 when they will play host Union on day 1 of the Union Interleague Challenge.
