Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball competes at the Union Interleague Challenge

The SUNY Oneonta volleyball team went back to Schenectady for a second time this season to compete at Union College.  Three weeks ago, the squad won all four of its matches and was riding its longest winning streak in nearly a decade.  This weekend was a bit different though, as Oneonta came back winning only one of its four matches at the Union Interleague Challenge.  The Red Dragons lost its first three matches before winning its final match yesterday afternoon versus Lehman College.  Oneonta is now 13-8 overall and competes next weekend at St. Joseph's (LI) in its tournament.  Action begins Friday afternoon for the two-day event.

In their opening match against Union on Friday afternoon, Oneonta lost in four sets (25-21, 18-25, 21-25, 22-25).  Senior Kacy Boburka (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) had 10 kills to lead the attack while junior Kristina Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) led the defensive effort with 17 digs.

In the second match on Friday, the Red Dragons were swept by Keene State (17-25, 21-25, 19-25).  Pelaccio again led the defense with 15 digs while sophomore Kaitlyn Vishneowski (Glenmont/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) had a season high 14 assists.

Oneonta was swept by Skidmore (20-25, 12-25, 16-25) in its opening match yesterday.  Junior Erica Darpino (Endicott/Union-Endicott) had a team high seven kills to go with two blocks.  Pelaccio had 10 digs to lead Oneonta while freshman Becca Horton (Owego/Owego Free Academy) had a team high 16 assists.

Against Lehman, Oneonta won in three sets (25-11, 25-12, 25-23).  Junior Bridget McHugh (New Hyde Park/Herricks) and freshman Jill Darpino (Endicott/Union Endicott) shared for high honors in kills with six each.  Pelaccio had seven digs and three service aces.  Senior Brittany Calvello (Gloversville/Broadalbin-Perth) led with 10 assists.
