The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team completely dominated the Morrisville Mustangs to open its 2012 SUNYAC schedule today on the road. The Red Dragons finished the contest with a 45-13 shot advantage while out-cornering their opponents 16-1. The win for Oneonta (4-2) also snapped a mini two-game skid while Morrisville fell to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the SUNYAC.
All of today's goals came in the second half for the Red Dragons including a pair by sophomore
Andrea Day (Greene/Greene). Senior
Suzanne Wright (Hudson/Germantown Central) added a goal and an assist while classmate
Ashley Johnson (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) scored the final goal for Oneonta.
Day scored the first two goals for Oneonta in the 40th and 46th minutes of play. Wright assisted on the first goal and then scored the Red Dragons third goal off a penalty corner. Wright's goal was assisted by junior
Ashley Morgan (Putnam Valley/Putnam Valley).
Johnson capped the scoring in the 61st minute unassisted as she took a quick touch through the defense before knocking it home.
Sophomore
Tess Tracy (Liverpool/Liverpool) played 63 minutes and made four saves in goal for Oneonta.
Oneonta's next game will be this Friday afternoon as they host SUNY Cortland in a key conference game beginning at 4pm at All College Field.
