SUNY Geneseo sophomore Gordon Lyons scored 19 points to lead four Blue Knights in double figures tonight in a 70-63 victory over host SUNY Oneonta. Oneonta (1-6/0-3 SUNYAC) had three players in double figures led by sophomore
Zach Mager (New City/Clarkstown South), who scored 19 points to go with a team high eight rebounds.
Geneseo (5-3/2-0 SUNYAC) led by as many as 11 points on two different occasions in the second half. Lyons scored 11 of his 19 points in the second half. He also collected a game high 13 rebounds.
Trailing 46-35 with 12:31 remaining in the contest, Oneonta put together a 14-5 run that brought them to within a basket at 51-49. Freshman
Jack Dignan (Brewster/Brewster) fueled the run at both ends of the floor while pouring in nine of the 14 points. Dignan finished the game with 14 points, matching his season high. Dignan connected on three, three-point shots, had three steals and two assists in the game.
Geneseo pushed its lead back to six points on back-to-back baskets before Mager scored five straight points to cut the Blue Knight lead to one point at 55-54 with just under four minutes to play.
The Blue Knights built its lead back to nine points with 34 seconds to play in the game. Oneonta could only get as close as five points on a lay up by senior
Nick Sarchioto (Duanesburg/Bishop Gibbons).
Sophomore
Frankie Kelly (Brewster/Kennedy Catholic) joined Mager and Dignan in double figures for Oneonta, scoring 10 points while dishing out six assists.
Senior Ryan Riefenhauser scored 18 points for Geneseo while collecting eight rebounds.
Oneonta scored the game's first six points en route to jumping out to a 14-4 lead. Freshman
Jackson Zuvic (Cold Spring/Haldane) scored six of his eight first half points in leading the way.
Geneseo began to cut into the Red Dragon lead and a jumper by Connor Fedge at the 10:23 mark got the Blue Knights to within three points at 16-13. Less than two minutes later, Geneseo took the lead on an old fashioned three-point play by Gordon Lyons.
Both teams shot 50 percent from the field in the opening twenty minutes. Geneseo led at halftime 31-26.
Oneonta will host Brockport tomorrow afternoon beginning at 4pm.
