The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team came back from its weekend in the Rochester area with nothing to show for its efforts. The Red Dragons lost a pair of SUNYAC contests at Brockport and Geneseo, which knocked them out of first place. Oneonta (7-4/3-2 SUNYAC) had entered the weekend at the top of the SUNYAC with its 3-0 record along with riding a four-game winning streak.
In yesterday's game against Brockport, Oneonta lost in a shootout after battling the Golden Eagles to a scoreless tie through regulation and two, sudden-victory overtime periods. Brockport came out on top 4-3 in the second set of five shooters. Despite controlling the attack for the entire game, Oneonta couldn't slide one past the Brockport goalie, who made 12 saves. Oneonta had a 17-7 shot advantage and a 17-6 advantage in penalty corners.
In today's loss to SUNY Geneseo, the Red Dragons out shot the Blue Knights 13-8 and had a 11-5 corner advantage. The game ended three minutes into the first overtime when Rachel Atkins converted a penalty stroke.
Oneonta plays next this Wednesday when they host Scranton for a non conference game beginning at 4:30pm.
