Field hockey drops weekend pair on the road

Red Dragons fall out of first place in the SUNYAC

Box Score

The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team came back from its weekend in the Rochester area with nothing to show for its efforts.  The Red Dragons lost a pair of SUNYAC contests at Brockport and Geneseo, which knocked them out of first place.  Oneonta (7-4/3-2 SUNYAC) had entered the weekend at the top of the SUNYAC with its 3-0 record along with riding a four-game winning streak.

In yesterday's game against Brockport, Oneonta lost in a shootout after battling the Golden Eagles to a scoreless tie through regulation and two, sudden-victory overtime periods.  Brockport came out on top 4-3 in the second set of five shooters.  Despite controlling the attack for the entire game, Oneonta couldn't slide one past the Brockport goalie, who made 12 saves.  Oneonta had a 17-7 shot advantage and a 17-6 advantage in penalty corners.

In today's loss to SUNY Geneseo, the Red Dragons out shot the Blue Knights 13-8 and had a 11-5 corner advantage.  The game ended three minutes into the first overtime when Rachel Atkins converted a penalty stroke.

Oneonta plays next this Wednesday when they host Scranton for a non conference game beginning at 4:30pm.
