Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey ends regular season with dominating win

The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team had another dominating performance today, as they defeated visiting Rensselaer 5-2 on Senior Day.  Oneonta (12-6) will now prepare for the SUNYAC tournament at New Paltz this weekend.  The Red Dragons will play host New Paltz Friday morning at 11am in the semifinals.  The championship game is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 1pm.

Oneonta scored three goals in the opening half of play while holding the Engineers to no shots.  Senior Suzanne Wright (Hudson/Germantown Central) scored her 13th goal of the year in the 12th minute to get things going for Oneonta.  Her goal was assisted by junior Ashley Morgan (Putnam Valley/Putnam Valley), who took a shot that got by the goalie before Wright redirected it to the back of the net.

A couple of minutes later, sophomore Andrea Day (Greene/Greene) collected a rebound and lifted a shot that went into the upper left corner of the goal.  It was Day's 10th goal of the season.

Morgan capped the scoring in the first half unassisted, as she notched her first of two goals in the game.  Morgan also scored Oneonta's fourth goal in the 57th minute, assisted by senior Ashley Johnson (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs).

Johnson scored her own goal in the 64th minute with an assist from Day.  Day pushed a pass across the circle that Johnson was able to get her stick on and redirect into the back of the goal.

Rensselaer (8-7) got goals from seniors Holly Dupuis and Alissa Peterson.  Dupuis scored her goal in the 37th minute when she redirected by junior Sarah Krolus.  Peterson's goal came with less than two minutes left in the game.  She took a pass from Krolus and drove a shot past Oneonta goalie.
