Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball splits pair at SUNYAC East pool play

The SUNY Oneonta volleyball team pulled out a dramatic five-set win over New Paltz to conclude its day today at the final SUNYAC East pool play weekend hosted by the Hawks.  The victory over New Paltz keeps its hopes alive to secure the final East Division spot for the SUNYAC tournament during the first weekend of November at the champion of the West Division.  Oneonta (17-11/2-4 SUNYAC) plays two matches tomorrow versus SUNY Potsdam and Plattsburgh, and if they win them both, they will earn their spot.

Oneonta began its day with a 3-0 loss to SUNY Cortland.  The few highlights in the match included 11 kills by senior Kacy Boburka (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) and 10 digs by junior Kristina Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson).

In the win versus New Paltz, Oneonta had to come back from a 2-1 deficit.  They won the third set 26-24 to force the fifth and deciding set, which they took 15-12.  The Red Dragons are a perfect 5-0 in five-set matches this season.

Boburka was huge on the attack for Oneonta with 20 kills.  Junior Erica Darpino (Endicott/Union-Endicott) added 14 kills and a pair of blocks.  Senior Brittany Calvello (Gloversville/Broadalbin-Perth) fueled the offense with 26 assists, as did freshman Becca Horton (Owego/Owego Free Academy), who contributed 22 assists.  Calvello also had 20 digs.  Pelaccio led Oneonta with 25 digs.

Oneonta's matches tomorrow are scheduled for 12pm versus Potsdam and 2pm against Plattsburgh.
