Field Hockey drops Ithaca 5-1

ITHACA, N.Y. – The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team recorded a 5-1 win on the road over Ithaca today in non-conference action today.  Oneonta (8-5) got a pair of goals from junior Ashley Morgan (Putnam Valley/Putnam Valley) to lead the attack, as the Red Dragons snapped a three-game skid.  The loss for the Bombers dropped them to 6-8 overall.

Oneonta got on the scoreboard early today when senior Ashley Johnson (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) scored in the sixth minute.  Her goal was assisted by classmate Suzanne Wright (Hudson/Germantown Central).

Twenty minutes later, sophomore Andrea Day (Greene/Greene) gave the Red Dragons a two-goal lead when she netted her team-leading eighth goal of the season unassisted.

Ithaca's only goal came less than a minute later, when Lindsay Flanagan (Cicero/Cicero-North Syracuse) scored her fourth goal of the season after the Bombers shot multiple times from short range. The goal came unassisted.

Morgan scored her first goal of the game prior to halftime to give Oneonta a 3-1 advantage going into the break.

Morgan scored her second of the game in the 44th minute with an assist from Johnson.  The Red Dragons' final goal came in the 53rd minute by sophomore Chelsea Remling (Mahopac/Lakeland) with an assist Day.

All three goalies played for Oneonta with starter Tess Tracy (Liverpool/Liverpool) picking up her eighth win of the season.  Tracy made four of the five saves for Oneonta today.  Ithaca goalkeeper Kelly Singleton (Rochester/Irondequoit) made seven saves.

Oneonta led the Bombers in shots 19-13 and led 17-11 in penalty corners.

Oneonta's next game is this coming Tuesday night at Hartwick College beginning at 7pm.
