The SUNY Oneonta wrestling team competed today at the North/South Duals hosted by Ursinus College. The Red Dragons faced four opponents on the day and came away with an even 2-2 split for their efforts.
Leading Oneonta (5-6) today was junior
Joey Hauser (Yorktown Heights/Lakeland) and senior
Jimmy Neal (Glens Falls/Glens Falls), who each recorded three wins on the day. Hauser had two regular decisions and one major decision while Neal recorded two major decisions and a regular decision.
Oneonta won its first two matches of the day, 19-17 over McDaniel College and 33-12 versus Scranton. The Red Dragons trailed McDaniel 14-6 before winning three consecutive matches including a pin by sophomore
Jake Smith (St. James/Smithtown) at 197 lbs. to give Oneonta a 19-14 lead.
Versus Scranton, Oneonta jumped out to a quick 12-0 lead with a forfeit at 125 lbs. and a pin at 133 lbs. by
Ben Mikac (Williamsville/Williamsville East). Mikac would go 2-2 on the day for the Red Dragons.
In its final two matches, Oneonta fell behind 16-0 to Delaware Valley and couldn't recover as they lost 23-12. Neal, Smith,
Dan Graff (LaGrangeville/Arlington) and
Vincent Barber (Clintondale/Highland) each recorded wins in the match. Graff and Barber both were 2-2 today.
Hauser was the lone winner in a 32-3 loss to host Ursinus in the final match for the Red Dragons.
Oneonta will travel back to Ursinus next Saturday to compete at the Will Abel Invitational.
