The SUNY Oneonta men played first place Oswego tough today, but came away with a 67-55 loss to the Lakers on the road.  With the loss, Oneonta remained winless in the SUNYAC while dropping to 1-13 overall on the season.  The Lakers remained undefeated in conference play while moving to 11-3 overall.

Junior Nick Sarchioto (Duanesburg/Bishop Gibbons) led Oneonta with 16 points while freshman Frankie Kelly (Brewster/Kennedy Catholic) added 11 points for Oneonta, who shot 46.8% from the floor overall to Oswego's 42.6%.  The Lakers hit 10 three-point shots while outscoring Oneonta from the free throw line 15-6.

Oneonta never led in the contest and came back to tie the game twice in the opening half.  After trailing by as many as 16 points in the second half, Oneonta cut the Lakers lead to five points at 46-41 with 6:30 remaining in the game.  Junior Cameron Boyden (Vestal/Vestal) made a lay up to cap the 18-7 run that got Oneonta within striking distance.  Boyden finished the game with eight points and 10 boards.  The Lakers countered with a 10-3 run to seize control back en route to the 12-point win.

Last night Sarchioto scored 14 points, but Oneonta fell to rival Cortland 84-58.  Oneonta only trailed 34-28 at halftime and still within six points with 9:17 remaining in the game before the hosts put together 17-3 run that put the game out of reach.

Kelly and classmate Zach Mager (New City/Clarkstown South) each contributed 11 points for Oneonta in the game.

Oneonta will be back in action again at home on Friday, Jan. 20 where they will face Geneseo for an 8pm tip off.
