Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey dominates Southern Maine in season opener

Junior Megan Warning scores three goals

Box Score

Oneonta State junior Megan Warning (Lake Peeksill/Putnam Valley) (Lake Peekskill/Putnam Valley) scored three goals including back-to-back tallies in the second half to lead the Red Dragons to a season opening, 6-2 win, versus visiting Southern Maine. Warning, who was the team's second leading scorer a year ago, picked up where she left off in 2010.

Oneonta actually tailed 1-0 when Southern Maine junior Rachel Trafton (Corinth, ME/Central) scored the game's first goal in the seventh minute. Trafton collected a rebound of a save by Oneonta goalie, Tess Tracy (Liverpool/Liverpool) (Liverpool/Liverpool) and knocked it home.

The hosts didn't waste any time in tying the score as exactly one minute later senior Jacqueline Camp (Queensbury/Queensbury) (Queensbury/Queensbury) knocked home a loose ball behind the goalie off a shot by junior Ashley Morgan (Putnam Valley/Putnam Valley) (Putnam Valley/Putnam Valley).

The Red Dragons notched three more scores over the remaining 27 minutes to lead going into the break, 4-1. Morgan scored her first goal in an Oneonta uniform after transferring in this season from UConn. Her goal made it 2-1 before freshman Andrea Day (Greene/Greene) (Greene/Greene) scored her first collegiate goal to make it 3-1. Warning made it 4-1 with her first of the game off an assist from Morgan to complete the Putnam Valley connection.

Warning added her final two goals in the early part of the second half to put the game out of reach for the Huskies, who got one final goal from senior Haley Carter.

Oneonta held a 22-15 advantage in shots and a 12-7 edge in penalty corners in the contest. Tracey finished the game with five saves in goal before giving way to classmate, Emma Wasserman (High Falls/Rondout Valley) (High Falls/Roundout Valley) with a few minutes left.
