The Oneonta State volleyball team hosted the first installment of SUNYAC East Division pool play this weekend and came away with a 2-2 overall record, which puts them in third place behind Cortland (4-0) and New Paltz (3-1).
Last night Oneonta began with a 3-0 sweep of Potsdam before putting nationally ranked Cortland through a test, dropping the match, 3-1.
Sophomore
Erica Darpino (Endicott/Union-Endicott) (Endicott/Union Endicott) led Oneonta with 22 kills versus Potsdam. Junior
Brittany Calvello (Gloversville/Broadalbin-Perth) (Gloversville/Broadalpin-Perth) fueled the offense with 31 assists to go with 14 digs. Senior
Jessica Zerega (New City/Clarkstown) (New City/Clarkstown) led the defense with 20 digs.
Junior
Kacy Boburka (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) came up with 18 kills against Cortland. Senior
Christina Fabiochi (Manorville/Eastport South Manor) (Manorville/Eastport South Manor) added 15 kills and 10 digs. Calvello had 43 assists and 10 digs in the match.
Today, Oneonta opened with New Paltz and fell, 3-1, before coming from two sets down to overtake Plattsburgh, 3-2.
Fabiochi was high woman with 11 kills versus New Paltz to go with 10 digs. Calvello registered 22 assists and 16 digs. Zerega had a team high 23 digs.
In their comeback versus Plattsburgh, Boburka was huge again with 15 kills. Fabiochi tallied 13 kills. Sophomore
Kristina Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) contributed 15 digs to the win.
Oneonta will be at the Fredonia Invitational next weekend. The Red Dragons will play The Sage Colleges at 4pm in its first match followed at 6pm with a match versus Pitt-Greenburg.
