The Oneonta State volleyball team broke even this weekend at the Ducks Invitational hosted by Stevens Institute of Technology. After dropping a pair on Friday, the Red Dragons bounced back with a pair of wins on Saturday.
Oneonta (7-6) opened the two-day tournament with a 3-0 loss to host Stevens (24-26, 18-25, 19-25). Sophomore
Erica Darpino (Endicott/Union-Endicott) (Endicott/Union Endicott) was tops with six kills. Senior
Jessica Zerega (New City/Clarkstown) (New City/Clarkstown) had a team high seven digs while junior
Brittany Calvello (Gloversville/Broadalbin-Perth) (Gloversville/Broadalpin Perth) had 17 assists.
In Oneonta's second match on day 1, the Red Dragons dropped a heartbreaker to Elmira in five sets, 25-17, 23-25, 25-18, 17-25, 11-15. Senior
Christina Fabiochi (Manorville/Eastport South Manor) (Manorville/Eastport South Manor), who was the lone Red Dragon selected to the All-Tournament Team, had 13 kills, 13 digs and four blocks. Calvello registered 28 assists and 22 digs.
On Saturday, Oneonta recorded back-to-back sweeps of Newbury College and Franklin (IN) College. Sophomore
Bridget McHugh (New Hyde Park/Herricks) (New Hyde Park/Herricks-Albertson) led Oneonta with nine kills versus Newbury. Darpino had a monster match against Franklin with 17 kills. Freshman

Kailyn Welling (Yorktown Heights/Somers) (Yorktown Heights/Somers) each had 20 assists.
Oneonta will be back in action this weekend when they host the first of two SUNYAC East Pool Play events. Oneonta will open with a 3pm match versus Potsdam before taking on nationally ranked Cortland at 5pm.
