ONEONTA, NY – Oneonta Red Dragons push past Houghton College this afternoon in a non-conference match-up at All College Field, 3-1. The Red Dragons are now 4-2 overall, 1-0 in SUNYAC, while Houghton falls to 2-3.
Five minutes into play junior Ashley Johnson (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) (Saratoga Springs, Saratoga Springs) put the Red Dragons on the board capitalizing on a penalty stroke. Fifteen minutes later freshman Andrea Day (Greene/Greene) (Greene/Greene) connected a pass with freshman Kelcy Forbragd (Camden/Camden) (Camden/Camden) for Oneonta's second goal. Junior Ashley Morgan (Putnam Valley/Putnam Valley) (Putnam Valley/Putnam Valley) completed a perfect pass to Megan Warning (Lake Peeksill/Putnam Valley) (Lake Peekskill/Putnam Valley) for their third and final goal of the game.
Houghton tallied their only goal of the game in the beginning of the second period when Ashley Engle (Manheim, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) passed into the circle to junior Rachel Stefanski Wallingford, CT/Lyman Hall).
The Highlanders led in penalty corners, 10-7, while Oneonta held in advantage in shots, 11-5. Freshman Tess Tracy (Liverpool/Liverpool) (Liverpool/Liverpool) recorded one save and Houghton's Hillary Duman collected four.

Oneonta defeats New Paltz in SUNYAC conference opener
Field Hockey defeated New Paltz (2-3, 0-1 SUNYAC) yesterday in their first conference win, taking the Hawks in double overtime, 3-2.
New Paltz started the scoring midway through the first half, when sophomore defender Alyssa Stock (Morris Plains, N.J./Whippany Park) took a penalty corner from senior forward Stacey Miller (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst).
Oneonta responded with just a minute left before halftime, when Forbragd took a rebounded save and scored after a long offensive possession.
New Paltz netted their second goal of the game off a penalty corner from senior forward Maryana Organidis (Belford, N.J./Henry Hudson Regional) and sophomore midfielder Lauren Link (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West). Oneonta then responded less than three minutes later when Warning and Morgan got the ball through the thick of the New Paltz defense to the left of the goal, where Johnson was able to tie the game with a quick shot.
In the second overtime, Day managed to find the back of the Hawks cage ending the game after almost 88 minutes of play.
Oneonta's Tracy saved seven of the nine shots she faced while New Paltz's Antonija Pjetri (Suffern/Suffern) finished the game with 13 saves on 16 chances.
Oneonta travels to Misericordia next Wednesday for a 4:00 p.m. game.
