Oneonta State overcame a 1-0 deficit to pull out a 3-1 victory over The University of Scranton Tuesday evening at the Long Center in Scranton.
Sophomore outside hitter Kacy Boburka (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) led the Red Dragons with 16 kills and nine digs, sophomore setter Brittany Calvello (Gloversville/Broadalbin-Perth) had nine kills, 11 assists, six digs and three blocks, and senior middle hitter Megan Boeltz (Greene/Greene) finished with seven kills and five blocks.
Tied 1-1 in sets and trailing 18-13 in the third set, the Royals fought back and appeared to have momentum on their side by cutting the margin to one, 19-18. Down the stretch, however, Scranton committed four service errors, including one with a 25-24 lead with an opportunity to nail down the final point. The Red Dragons then scored the next two points on kill and a service ace by Calvello to hold on for a 27-25 victory to take a 2-1 lead in sets.
With momentum now clearly in Oneonta favor, the Red Dragons took advantage as libero Jessica Zerega (New City/Clarkstown), who finished with a match-high 23 digs, won 19 straight points on her serve.
