Field Hockey earns ECAC berth

Red Dragons host Kean University on Wednesday

ONEONTA, N.Y.—Although the snow on the ground makes it feel more like winter, the SUNY Oneonta field hockey will continue its fall season tomorrow at home when they host Kean University in an ECAC Div. III Mid Atlantic quarterfinal game beginning at 4:00 p.m. The Red Dragons earned a No. 4 seed in the eight team bracket and hopes to advance to the championship round this weekend at the highest remaining seed.

Oneonta is making its first appearance in the ECAC tournament since 2005 when they dropped a quarterfinal game to Gettysburg, 3-0.

The tournament field, announced yesterday, includes Catholic University, Wesley College and Drew University drew the top three spots respectively. If Catholic wins its quarterfinal game on Wednesday, they will serve as the host for the weekend.

Rounding out the field of eight are Alvernia University, FDU-Florham and Gwynedd-Mercy College in the sixth, seventh and eight spots respectively.

Oneonta completed its regular season 11-7 overall and winners of three straight games. The Red Dragons defeated nationally ranked Juniata 2-1 in overtime in its regular season finale back on Oct. 30.

Senior Ainsley Stoll (Williamsville) has led Oneonta offensively all year long. She is having one of the greatest statistical seasons in over 25 years for the field hockey program.
