Field Hockey halts Pioneers

Stoll scores 20th goal of the season

ONEONTA, NY- It took two overtimes and a stroke off to determine a winner. In the end Oneonta was able to come out on top defeating Utica 3-2.

Senior Ainsley Stoll (Williamsville/Williamsville North) (Williamsville) and the Red Dragons took advantage of the ball when the opportunity appeared. In the 4th minute of play Stoll received the ball off a penalty corner and rifled it into the goal to put Oneonta up 1-0.

The teams battled back and forth with shots, but the play of Oneonta's senior goalie Leslie Dauphinais (Harpursville/Harpursville) (Harpursville) and Utica's Monica Storms kept the game close.

Just before the halftime as the game seemed to be winding down for the first half Lindsey Jester was able to dribble through defenders in the middle and score for Utica, tying the game up at one.

The second half was identical to the first half as Stoll put the ball into the net off a penalty corner to put the Red Dragons up 2-1. This was Stoll's 20th goal of the season.

Utica began to battle back out shooting Oneonta 8-2 in the second half.

In the 64th minute of play, Mallory Mariano was able to come off the bench and tie the game back up for Utica.

After both teams battled in two overtime's, the game proceeded to a stroke-off shoot out.
Freshman Stephanie Fiske (Marathon/Marathon) (Marathon) made the team's first goal for the Red Dragons while Utica was unable to convert a stroke, ending the game 3-2 in favor of Oneonta.
