ONEONTA, N.Y.—The SUNY Oneonta volleyball team came up one win short today of winning the 41st annual Oneonta Invitational as it fell to Elmira in the championship match, 3-1. The Red Dragons (9-13) completed pool play 4-0 after defeating both Keene State and Hartwick earlier in the today. The four sets in the championship match were decided by a combined 12 points.
In the win against Keene State to begin the day, three players registered double digits in kills led by the sophomore tandem of
Kacy Boburka (Binghamton) and
Brittany Calvello (Gloversville), who each had 15 kills. Junior
Christina Fabiochi (Manorville) added 13 kills and a team high 21 digs. Calvello had 27 assists to lead the Red Dragons while also adding four blocks. Boburka and senior
Megan Boeltz (Greene) tied for the team high in blocks with five.
Against Hartwick, the Red Dragons won three straight sets after dropping the first set 20-25. Junior
Stephanie Holt (Delanson) led the attack with nine kills. Freshman
Katie Sheehan (Bellmore) led the defensive effort with 10 digs.
In the championship match, Boburka led Oneonta with 12 kills. Calvello had 22 assists, seven kills and two blocks. Senior
Jessica Zerega (New City) had 14 digs to lead the defense.
Both Boburka and Fabiochi were named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Red Dragons will be at the Union College Interleague Challenge next weekend with action getting underway on Friday.
