ONEONTA, N.Y.—The golden touch of senior
Ainsley Stoll (Williamsville/Williamsville North) came to the rescue again today for the SUNY Oneonta field hockey team as the senior scored the game-winner in the 84th minute to lift the Red Dragons to a 1-0 win against visiting New Paltz this afternoon. The win for Oneonta (7-4/1-2) was its third straight and its first conference win of the season. Stoll's game-winner was her sixth of the season and her team-leading 14th goal overall.
Stoll's game-winning goal was set up when classmate
Rachel Taylor (Southampton/Southampton), who had just entered the game. Taylor made a rush down the left side of the field and got herself into the circle where she was able to make a reverse stick cross that went by the front of the goalie to where Stoll was able to redirect the ball into the cage. The goal came with just 1:58 remaining in the first sudden victory overtime period.
Just prior to the goal by Stoll, New Paltz (4-5/1-2) had a corner that generated a shot by senior Alyssa Finck that went just wide left. Finck also had a shot from close in the second minute of the overtime, but was stopped by Oneonta goalie,
Leslie Dauphinais (Harpursville/Harpursville).
Dauphinais made three stops today to record her third shutout of the season.
