Field Hockey sinks Lakers 5-2

Basher and Warning score two goals each

Box Score

ONEONTA, N.Y.—The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team got a pair of goals each from senior Alysia Basher (Lancaster) and sophomore Megan Warning (Lake Peeksill/Putnam Valley) (Lake Peeksill) as the Red Dragons defeated visiting Oswego this afternoon at rainy, windy All-College Field. With the win, Oneonta improved to 9-5 overall and 2-3 in the SUNYAC while the Lakers fall to 4-8 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

Oneonta wasted no time in taking an early 1-0 lead as Basher scored her first goal of the game in the fifth minute of play. Basher was able to redirect a shot passed the Oswego goalie on a shot directed towards the goal by junior Jacqueline Camp (Queensbury).

Oswego came right back less than two minutes later and scored on a carbon copy of Oneonta's goal. Senior Brittany Roetzer took a shot that sophomore Jess Felice got her stick on to redirect passed Oneonta goalie Leslie Dauphinais (Harpursville/Harpursville) (Harpursville).

The Red Dragons scored two unanswered goals in the 23rd and 26th minutes to take a 3-1 lead. Warning notched her first goal of the game unassisted while freshman Carly Fuller (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) (Saratoga Springs) scored her first collegiate goal.

An unassisted goal by junior Kelsey Moran cut the lead back to one goal in the 57th minute.

Goals by Warning in the 69th minute and Basher in the 70th minute put the exclamation point on the victory for Oneonta.

Dauphinais finished the game with four saves while her counterpart, Jamie Scharfe, made two stops.

Oneonta hosts rival SUNY Cortland tomorrow in a must win to qualify for the SUNYAC tournament beginning at 1:00 p.m. If Oneonta wins, they will earn one of the four spots in the tournament. If they lose, they will have to wait out the tiebreakers to see if they get into post-season event.
