SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—The SUNY Oneonta women's volleyball team competed this weekend at the Union College Interleague Challenge and came away with an even 2-2 record. The highlight of the two-day event was a sweep of Ithaca College on Saturday, which was the first victory over the Bombers during head coach, Colleen Cashman's 12-year tenure at Oneonta.
In the match against Ithaca, Oneonta (11-15) was able to avenge a defeat at the hands of the Bombers earlier this season. Oddly enough, the Red Dragons won't play until Tuesday, Oct. 19 when they face the Bombers.
Sophomores
Kacy Boburka (Binghamton) and
Brittany Calvello (Gloversville) led the attack with 12 kills and 10 kills respectively against the Bombers. Calvello also contributed 15 assists and five digs. Boburka had five digs and a pair of blocks.
The Red Dragons' other win in the tournament came on Friday evening when they outlasted Lasell College 3-2. Oneonta trailed two sets to one before rallying to force the fifth set, which they won 15-12.
Leading Oneonta against Lasell was freshman
Andrea Gorgen (Charlton), who had 13 kills, eight digs and five aces. Classmate
Kylie Lambert (Webster) fueled Oneonta's attack with 25 assists.
