ONEONTA, N.Y.—The SUNY Oneonta women's volleyball team finally got to play at home today and they came away with a pair of wins on the opening day of the 41st annual Oneonta Invitational. The Red Dragons (7-12) swept SUNYIT in three sets and then outlasted RIT in five sets.
Oneonta will conclude pool play tomorrow with two more matches against Keene State and Hartwick with the hopes of getting to the championship match scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
In the win against SUNYIT, Oneonta got 10 kills from sophomore
Kacy Boburka (Binghamton) while senior
Megan Boeltz (Greene) added eight kills and three blocks. Senior
Jessica Zerega (New City) led the defensive effort with 18 digs.
In the five-set win against RIT, the Red Dragons had a 2-1 lead before the Tigers forced a fifth set, which Oneonta won 15-7. Boburka and Boeltz each had 13 kills in the match. Sophomore
Brittany Calvello (Gloversville) had a team high 14 kills and six blocks to go with 24 assists and 12 digs. Senior
Kelsey Klopfer (Baldwinsville) added a team high 27 assists while adding nine digs.
