SUNY Oneonta senior #Wala Canario (Mastic/William Floyd)# pinned Kyle Sheridan (Syracuse/Baldwinsville) with 1:05 remaining in the second period to break a 12-12 tie and lift the Red Dragons to a 18-15 dual-meet win against Oswego this afternoon.  With the score tied at 12-12 through the first eight weight classes, the six points gave Oneonta the cushion it needed in raising its overall record to 9-6.
     Prior to Canario's pin the two teams exchanged match-for-match decisions through the opening four weight classes.  Sophomore Nick Rodgers (Owego/Newark Valley) and junior Tony DeFranco (Adams/South Jefferson)  won at 157 lbs. and 165 lbs. for Os-wego (3-7) to open up a 12-6 lead.
     The Red Dragons bounced back at 174 lbs. and 184 lbs. weight classes as junior #Chris Wade (Islip/Islip)# and senior #Josh Wake (Delhi/Delaware Academy)# recorded wins to knot the score at 12-12, which set the stage for Canario's heroics at 197 lbs.
     The most exciting match of the day, Oneonta's #Zack Crain (East Greenbush/Columbia)# came from behind to capture a 12-7 decision against Chris Payne (Farmington/Victor) at 141 lbs.  Crain trailed the entire match and was still behind 5-2 with less than 30 seconds to go.  Crain ended up getting a reversal and a three-point near fall to tie the match 7-7 to force an overtime period.  In the sudden victory overtime, Crain recorded a take down and a near fall to end the match.
     Oswego had a come-from-behind win of its own at 149 lbs. when Blake Fisher (Seaford/Seaford)
 scored a three-point near fall in the final 30 seconds to overcome a 4-3 deficit and take a 6-4 victory against #Matt Eberlein (Levittown/Island Trees)#.
     Prior to today's match Oneonta honored three seniors for their outstanding contributions and commitment to the wrestling program over the last four years.  Wake, Canario, #Erik Johanson (Schuylerville/Schuylerville)# all received plaques from coach Duane Ritter.
     After the senior presentation was complete, the announcement of a Golden Anniversary Team took place to commemorate the 50th year of wrestling at the college.  Certificates were presented to those in attendance.  The team of 25 wrestlers were selected by the longtime former coach Al, Sosa, and Ritter.
     Oneonta will be back in action this coming Wednesday night at home when they face highly ranked Ithaca College for a dual meet beginning at 7:00 p.m.
