SUNY Oneonta senior
Lauren McGee (Old Bethpage/John F. Kennedy) scored a pair of goals this afternoon to lead the Red Dragons to a 3-0 shutout of Buffalo State in SUNYAC women's soccer action today at Red Dragon Field. The win for Oneonta was its fifth straight and completed a weekend sweep of conference games as the Red Dragons are now 6-1-1 overall and 3-0 in the SUNYAC.
Oneonta finally broke a scoreless tie in the 36th minute of play when sophomore
Brittney Reilly (LaGrangeville/Arlington) sent a great crossing pass to the front of the goal where a charging McGee was able to get her right foot on it and redirect the pass to the back of the goal.
The Red Dragons notched its next two goals less than two minutes apart in the second half to put the game out of reach.
The second score of the game came from senior
Beth Cherry (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) who was in the right place at the right time for Oneonta. She was able to push the ball across the line that was loose after a save of a shot by junior
Caitlin Burke (Manorville/Center Moriches). The keeper for Buffalo State (2-3-4/0-2-1) couldn't control the shot and it trickled behind her
where Cherry was waiting for it and completed the play by putting the ball over the goal line. The final goal of the game came on a corner kick when McGee was able to redirect with her head a ball sent in from the left corner flag by Burke.
The lone highlight for the Bengals today was keeper Meghan Jarrell (Hamburg/Hamburg), who kept the score close with 10 saves.
Oneonta will be in action again this coming Tuesday evening when they travel south to Scranton for a game beginning at 6:00 p.m.
