The SUNY Geneseo field hockey team overcame an early 1-0 deficit today to take a 2-1 road win against SUNY Oneonta in the SUNYAC opener for both squads. Junior Erin Zalewski (New Hartford/New Hartford) scored an unassisted goal in the 60th minute and freshman goalie Nicole Zito (Holtsville/Sachem) made it stand for the Blue Knights, who raised its overall record to 4-1. The loss for the Red Dragons dropped them to 1-6 overall.

Kathryn Kubaryk (Warrensburg/Warrensburg)# got the Red Dragons on the scoreboard first in the fourth minute of play. She took a pass out of the defensive third and proceeded to dribble and dodge her way to the front of the goal where she put a shot passed Zito for the 1-0 lead.
Despite not having many opportunities in the first half, Geneseo tied the score in the 27th minute. Sophomore Abby Sayler (Baldwinsville/Baker) converted a pass in close from junior Stephanie Maisonet (Pine Bush/Pine Bush).
Oneonta nearly took a lead in the 34th minute on a shot that hit the post by Kubaryk. Oneonta had a flurry of shots just prior to the Blue Knights taking the lead, but couldn't convert.
The Red Dragons finished the contest with a 14-8 shot advantage while out-cornering Geneseo 7-3.
Oneonta will be back in action again tomorrow when they host SUNYAC foe Brockport for a game beginning at 1:00 p.m.
