Oneonta State Rallies Past Rensselaer

Red Dragons capture first win of season in 4-1 victory of RPI

Box Score

Behind goals from four different players and a nine-save performance by junior #Leslie Dauphinais (Harpursville/Harpursville)#, the Oneonta State field hockey team defeated Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), 4-1 in non-conference action on Wednesday. The win was the first of the season for the Red Dragons, who improved to 1-5. The Engineers drop to 0-6 on the season.
Rensselaer took the first lead of the game in the 23rd minute after senior captain Joanna Aliprando (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) sent a deflected shot into the right corner for the score past Dauphinais. Classmate Margaret Chowaniec (Burlington, CT/Lewis Mills) set up the play after her shot was saved by a defender and kicked out to Aliprando.
The Red Dragons found their way onto the scoreboard in the 32nd minute as RPI senior Alex Lamparski
(Malvern, PA/Country Day School of the Sacred Heart) was whistled for a deliberate foul, awarding the
visitors a penalty stroke. Junior #Rachel Taylor (Southampton/Southampton)# came in to take the shot and sent it over the right arm of the Engineers goalie.
Oneonta State continued to gain momentum, scoring the go-ahead goal less than three minutes later as
junior #Alysia Basher (Lancaster/Lancaster)# found the loose ball off a scramble in front of the goal and sent it in under the goalie.
In the second half, sophomore #Andrea Van Dyke (East Hampton/East Hampton)# pushed the Red Dragons lead to 3-1 after she buried a rebound shot by #Alyssa Herzog (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham)# near the 51st minute. Herzog was credited with the assist.
Senior #Kathryn Kubaryk (Warrensburg/Warrensburg)# closed out the scoring for Oneonta State in the 64th minute after she rifled a pass from junior #Amanda Farro (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell)# into the wide open left side of the goal.
The Engineers saw several players post multiple shots in the game, including a team-high three for
Chowaniec. Sophomore netminder Briana Earle (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) stopped seven shots in the
loss.
Rensselaer is now idle until September 25 & 26, when it opens Liberty League play at Union (4pm) and
Skidmore (2pm), respectively. Oneonta State opens its conference schedule on Friday and Saturday at home
against SUNYAC rivals Geneseo (4pm) and Brockport (1pm), respectively.
