Oneonta's late goal holds off New Paltz

Red Dragons score in 63rd minute to seal win

     The SUNY New Paltz field hockey team fell to the Red Dragons of Oneonta, by a score of 1-0, on Saturday afternoon on the Turf Field.
      The Hawks came out aggressive and showed promise in the first half.  At 15:40, Kristen Bergmann's
(Massapequa) shot on a fast break was saved by a diving Oneonta goalkeeper.  In the 24th minute, Sarah
Schloss (Brant Lake/North Warren) ripped a hard shot at the Oneonta cage but the goalkeeper had a glove
save.
     At 5:22, a shot by Caitlin Ryder (Hopewell Junction/John Jay) off a corner was saved by the Oneonta
goalkeeper to keep the score 0-0 at the half.  The Hawks had a 9-4 shot advantage and a 9-4 penalty
corner advantage at the break.
     In the 41st minute, Oneonta set up a corner and #Alyssa Tufano (Lake Ronkonkoma/Sachem North)#'s shot was off the post.  Minutes later,
Oneonta had time to capitalize when they were allowed a penalty shot.  However, #Rachel Taylor (Southampton/Southampton)#'s shot
was wide on the opportunity.
     At the 59th minute, New Paltz goalkeeper Elizabeth Tong (Woodstock/Onteora Central) had a kick save off
a shot from #Kathryn Kubaryk (Warrensburg/Warrensburg)#.
      In the 63rd minute, #Ainsley Stoll (Williamsville/Williamsville North)# found the back of the cage for her seventh goal of the season, making it a 1-0 advantage for Oneonta.  Minutes later, Schloss fired a shot but was saved by a diving Oneonta goalkeeper.
     Oneonta's goalkeeper #Leslie Dauphinais (Harpursville/Harpursville)# recorded the win in net for the Red Dragons, earning her second shutout on the season with 11 saves.
     Tong recorded the loss in goal for the Hawks, allowing one goal on 11 shots and saving four.
