Box Score Box Score

A goal 2:49 into the second half by Cortland freshman Stacey Wood (New Hyde Park/New Hyde Park)  proved to be the difference on Friday afternoon as the visiting Red Dragons of Cortland held on for a 2-1 victory over the host Red Dragons marking Cortland's first victory over Oneonta since 1995.
Oneonta took the initial lead of the game in the fifth minute of play when junior Nha Wright (Schenectady/Duanesburg) found classmate Cairtlin Burke on a corner kick. Burke then converted the play for the goal making it 1-0 in favor of Oneonta.
The Cortland offense began to press the Oneonta defense midway through the first half and with 11-seconds to go in the half got a break when junior Maura Martin (Chili/Gates-Chili) sent a direct kick at the goal that deflected off the goalkeepers hands and off of the crossbar and into the goal to tie the score at 1-1 heading into halftime.
Cortland then took the lead 2:49 into the second half when sophomore Bridgette DeSantis (Schenectady/Mohonasen) found Wood with a loose ball inside the box and put it in the net to make it 2-1 Cortland.
Oneonta came close to tying the game in the 72nd-minute when it appeared that they had their second goal of the day however an off sides call waived off the goal leaving Cortland in the lead with just over 15-minutes remaining to play.
The host Red Dragons had one last shot in the final minute of play hitting the post with 11-seconds remaining as Cortland held on for the win.
Oneonta freshman keeper, Jamie Chyat (Staten Island/Staten Island Academy) finished the game with two saves in goal while Cortland goalie Pam Monnier (East Northport/Northport) finished with a pair of saves of her own for Cortland.
Prior to tonight's loss Oneonta had not lost to Cortland since a 0-1 setback in 1995 and had put together a 0-18-2 record since that last loss with 0-0 ties in 1998 and 2007.
Despite the loss, Oneonta still has a chance of claiming the conference regular season title should Oneonta win tomorrow's game against Oswego and Fredonia loses either of their games this weekend as Oneonta holds the head-to-head tiebreaker with Fredonia. Tomorrow's game against Oswego is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
