Collen Cashman 2015

Colleen Cashman

“I approach the game with the philosophy that if a team has ability, discipline, self-respect, commitment and direction, that is only one half of the equation; the other half is to always remember to have fun and enjoy the game. Winning will then take care of itself.”

After coming off a successful 2014 season, Cashman will begin her 17th season at the helm of the Red Dragon volleyball program in 2015.  A strong core of 15 returners includes seniors Ally Coniglione, Jill Darpino, Karly Greco, Hannah O’Neil, Kristen Polan and Lauren Pennino, who have built a legacy on the court together that will culminate this season. “The nucleus of our team has seen significant playing time in the past and will not skip a beat as their quest begins to once again challenge for the top spot in the SUNYAC Conference.”

“One of the strengths of our program lies in the area of passion and enthusiasm. When you watch us play and you did not know the score you wouldn’t know if we were winning or losing – we play hard and it shows.”

In 2002, Cashman guided the Red Dragons to a 31-13 season and the program’s first SUNYAC title and NCAA berth.  The team’s success earned her selection as the Coach of the Year for both the SUNYAC and NYSWCAA.  In 2006, the squad finished with a 23-17 record while appearing in both the SUNYAC and NYSWCAA tournament. The squad also earned the program’s third ECAC tournament berth, its first since 1997.

“Our goal of reaching the SUNYAC Championship match this season will be met by the team challenging themselves to work hard and commit to doing whatever it takes to be the Champions. It’s a great time to be a member of the Red Dragons of Oneonta!”

During an association with Binghamton University that began in 1989 as an assistant coach for the volleyball program, Cashman spent time as a player for two seasons in 1994 and 1995 and was the head coach for the 1997 and 1998 seasons. As a player, Cashman led the program to its first ever SUNYAC title and NCAA berth while earning Regional All-America honors. In her first season as the head coach she guided the then “Colonials” to their second NCAA Div. III Tournament berth in 1997; and in 1998 her squad advanced to the semifinals of the New England Collegiate Conference Tournament as a Div. II team.

A native of Binghamton, N.Y., Cashman holds an associate's degree in business administration from Broome Community College and is a graduate of Binghamton University where she received a bachelor's degree in English as well as a Master's degree in Social Science. Cashman also serves as a lecturer in the Department of Health and Fitness.
