SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The Oneonta women's soccer team was unable to find the equalizer in the second half as they came up short on the road against Skidmore, 1-0, Saturday afternoon. The result moved the Red Dragons to 1-2-1 this season, while the Thoroughbreds improved to 1-1-1 overall.Â
"We made some good adjustments at half and played a more complete, competitive second half," said Head Coach
Mara Primmer. "We'll use this and continue to build to be prepared for SUNYAC play."
Skidmore hit the lone goal of the match in the 32nd minute. Oneonta tried to clear the ball after a corner kick, though the Thoroughbreds regained possession at midfield and sent a lead pass to Ryan Bryn. Bryn gained possession of the ball and scored from 23 yards out. Bryn had a chance to extend Skidmore's lead in the 43rd minute, but she chipped the ball too high and hit the crossbar.

Sara Kealey (Seaford, NY/General Douglas MacArthur) had the first shot on target in the game during the 17th minute when she took a shot from 20 yards out. Skidmore's goalie, Sophia Sayers, was able to make the stop.
Senior
Gianna Hanner (Ridge, NY/Longwood) had a chance for the equalizer in the 69th minute. The Red Dragon captain received the ball at the top of the penalty box and fired a quick shot on her first touch that forced the goalie to make a diving save.
Senior
Brenna Mast (Croghan, NY/Beaver River) finished the game with two shots on goal. After Sayers stopped sophomore
Eleni Schattman's (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Hendrick Hudson) shot in the 26th minute, Mast forced a Thoroughbred's turnover, then she got the ball back for a shot from just outside the penalty area, but it was stopped by the keeper. The Red Dragon senior's second shot in the 87th was the team's final chance to tie the game. Senior
Dominique DiOrio (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) passed Mast the ball and she gathered it for a shot from 25 yards out, but it went straight towards the keeper for the save.
Junior
Emily Hardison (Coram, NY/Longwood) finished the game with five saves for Oneonta. Sayers started the first half for Skidmore and finished with three saves, while Aila Chase played the second half and recorded two stops.
The Thoroughbreds outshot the Red Dragons 15-6 in total shots, 6-5 with shots on net, and they finished with an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Oneonta is back on the pitch on Wednesday, September 16, when they travel to Brockport for a non-conference match with the Golden Eagles at 4 pm.
