BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- After finding the back of the net in the early moments of the match, the Oneonta women's soccer team allowed three goals in the final 45 and fell on the road to Brockport, 3-1, Wednesday afternoon. Senior
Dominique DiOrio (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) gave Oneonta the lead in the 10th minute, and they held onto it until Brockport scored a pair of goals in the 55th and 56th minute, before adding an insurance goal in the final moments of play. The result moved the Red Dragons to 1-3-1 this season and the Golden Eagles to 4-1-1 overall.
DiOrio scored Oneonta's goal off a corner kick in the early moments of the 10th minute. Senior captain
Gianna Hanner (Ridge, NY/Longwood) took the corner and delivered a pass into the middle of the penalty area to her captain teammate, and DiOrio kicked the ball while it was in the air and it one-hopped into the net for her second career goal.
In the second half, Brockport tied the match during the 55th minute when Kaitlyn Spring scored, then the Golden Eagles took a 2-1 lead in the 56th minute when McKenna Slate scored off a pass from Sophia Brooks.
Sophomores
Bella Mattoni (Valhalla, NY/Valhalla),
Eleni Schattman (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Hendrick Hudson), and junior
Sara Kealey (Seaford, NY/General Douglas MacArthur) each had a chance for the equalizer, however Brockport's Emily McCane made all three saves. In the 80th minute, Oneonta was moving the ball around and got it to senior
Brenna Mast (Croghan, NY/Beaver River) for an open shot from 15 yards out, but it was stopped by McCane. Junior
Marlie Watson (Wappingers Falls, NY/John Jay) ran towards the rebound for a second chance opportunity and shot the ball wide.
In the 81st minute, Brockport scored their thrid goal when Parker Graham sent a lead pass on the counterattack to Amelia Breton, and Breton took a shot from inside the 18 yard box that rolled in for the goal.
Sophomore
Violet Mattoni (Valhalla, NY/Valhalla), junior
Devyn Kelly (Wappingers Falls, NY/Beacon), and Hanner all recorded a shot on target in the final minutes of play, but not of them could cut the deficit.
Junior
Emily Hardison (Coram, NY/Longwood) started the first 77:10 for Oneonta and totaled one save, while freshman
Makenzi Hansen (Ridge, NY/Longwood) registered her first collegiate minutes and played the final 12:50. McCane finished with 11 saves for Brockport.
The Red Dragons outshot the Golden Eagles 20-14 in total shots, 12-4 with shots on goal, and they held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
Oneonta is back home for their next match on Saturday, September 19, against Union at 1 pm on Red Dragon Field.
