CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The Oneonta men's lacrosse team fell in the SUNYAC Championship to Cortland, 18-7, Saturday afternoon. Cortland jumped out to a 5-1 lead after the first period and maintained the four-goal lead at halftime, then they outscored Oneonta 11-4 in the second half. Senior
Jamie O'Neil (Bath, N.Y./Haverling), junior
Thomas Hnis (Smithtown, N.Y./Kings Park), and sophomore
Mark Restivo (Merrick, NY/Sanford H. Calhoun) were all named to the SUNYAC All-Tournament team after their performances.
Hnis and O'Neil each finished with the game-high three points, as Hnis scored three goals and O'Neil had a goal with two assists. Restivo recorded a career-high 27 saves in the championship game for a .600 save percentage. He became one of nine goalies in program history to save at least 27 shots in a game, while he is tied for the seventh most in program history. Restivo will enter his junior year seventh in program history with 443 career saves.
O'Neil's second assist of the game was his 131st of his career, which set the Oneonta program record for most career assists. The previous record of 130 was set by Brian Dolley '00. O'Neil ended his career as the program's career leader in points (308), goals (177), assists (131), career points per game (4.74), and holds the single season points (102) and assists (55) record.
Hnis finished the season with a program record of 71 goals. He will enter his senior season with 173 career goals, only four behind O'Neil. Hnis is currently third in program history with 228 points.

Seniors
Shakim Carr (Brooklyn, N.Y./John Dewey),
Daniel Macchiarella (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland), and freshman
Ryan Babikian (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) all scored in the conference championship. Carr ended his senior season with 10 goals and six assists for 16 points, while Macchiarella finished his season with 21 points off 12 goals and nine assists, totaling 49 points in his career. Babikian capped off his freshman campaign with 25 goals and an assist for 26 points.
Cortland scored the first two goals of the game, before Hnis recorded the first goal for Oneonta at 6:36. Cortland ended the first quarter with three unanswered goals to take a 5-1 lead.
After Drew Williamee put Cortland up five in the second period, Oneonta cut the deficit to 6-3 at 11:32 when O'Neil assisted Macchiarella on a man-up goal, then he found Babikian for his record-setting assist. Stefan Swedlund tallied a goal on an extra-man opportunity with 6:00 left in the second to give Cortland a 7-3 entering halftime.
Williamee had the first goal of the third quarter, before O'Neil scored his final goal of his career at 9:23. He got the ball from junior
Finn Morris (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) at the top of the zone then he went down the left alley Cortland responded with three straight goals for an 11-4 lead entering the final period.
Hnis scored back-to-back goals to open the fourth quarter and got Oneonta back to within five with 13:49 remaining. Unfortunately, before Oneonta could find the back of the net again, Cortland forced a turnover on a clear attempt and scored on an empty net to kick start a 6-0 run to go up 17-6 with 1:42 left. With 1:04 to play, Carr scored the final goal of the season for Oneonta after he brought his defender behind the net, came back around to the center of the slot and fired the shot into the net.
Sophomore
Hunter Busch (Babylon, N.Y./Babylon) collected a team-high seven ground balls. Carr, sophomore
Cody Sharp (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Burnt Hills Ballston Lake), and freshman
Daniel Baranoski (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park) each caused one turnover.
Cortland was led by Swedlund with five goals, and Nick Stoecker with three goals and two assists for five points. Williamee had four points off two goals and two assists. Charlie Falowski had six saves for a .462 save percentage.
Cortland outshot Oneonta 81-31 in total shots, 45-13 shots on goal, and they finished with a 50-26 advantage in ground balls. Oneonta was 21-for-32 on clear attempts, 1-1 on the extra man opportunity, and Cortland finished 21-of-22 on clears and 3-for-8 on the man-up.

Oneonta finished the season with an overall record of 10-8 and 6-1 in the SUNYAC to clinch a spot in the conference tournament, where they advanced to the league championship for the second straight time.
