Oneonta to Face Cortland in First Round of SUNYAC Tournament

ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta baseball team opens the SUNYAC Tournament on Friday, May 1, when they travel to face Cortland at 3.pm. In a best-of-three series, Oneonta (19-17, 7-9 SUNYAC) enters as the fourth seed and Cortland (25-8-1, 15-1 SUNYAC) enters as the first seed.

Please note that pets are not permitted in athletic facilities.

Saturday, May 2 at 3:00 p.m.: Game 3 (If Necessary)  

Oneonta's offense featured two batters with 35 or more hits this season. Senior Brendan Duffy (Southold, NY/Southold Jr./Sr.) led the team with 43 hits (.333) and added 30 RBIs. He added five home runs and 35 runs scored. Sophomore Joseph Monserrat (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central) added 32 hits (.308) to the Red Dragon offense and led the team in on-base percentage (.479), and is tied for seventh in NCAA Division III with 36 stolen bases.  

The middle of the order is further bolstered by sophomore Ryan Cronin (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), who is hitting .280 with 23 RBI, while senior Nick Jacoby (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) adds depth with a .264 average, 30 runs scored, and 11 stolen bases. Junior Sean Clinton (New City, NY/Clarkstown South) has also provided a boost with a .443 on-base percentage. 

Freshman Aiden Chartrand (Harrisville, NY/Harrisville) led Oneonta's pitching with a 2.36 ERA and a 5-0 record. Chartrand recorded 27 strikeouts over 42.0 innings pitched and gave up 36 hits with only eleven runs. Junior Jake Quigley (Harrison, NY/Harrison) also had a solid season on the mound, going 4-2 with a 2.79 ERA, and giving up 16 earned runs in 51.2 innings pitched.  

Junior Lukas Jachens (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall Central) led the team with two saves and finished the season with a 2.96 ERA, 24 strikeouts, and eight earned runs allowed. Sophomore Ryan Krzemienski (Commack, NY/Commack) has delivered effective innings in relief with a 2.84 ERA. 

Talon Elkins led Cortland's offense, finishing the season with a .440 batting average with 48 hits, 23 RBIs, and 37 runs scored. Tristan Gatchalian added 30 RBI and three home runs. and a .414 batting average. 

Warren Miller was Cortland's primary pitcher, going 4-1 with a 3.25 ERA. Miller recorded 60 strikeouts and gave up sixteen earned runs in 44.1 innings pitched.  

Oneonta and Cortland faced off to conclude the regular season, with Cortland taking the one game 6-4 played before the other two were canceled due to weather.  

The winner of this series will advance to the SUNYAC Championships against the winner of the New Paltz and Oswego series.
