ONEONTA, N.Y. - Oneonta baseball rising junior Joseph Monserrat (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central) picked up American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Division III Region 3 All-Defensive Team honors, announced by the organization last week. He becomes the second Red Dragon in program history to receive the recognition after Joey Dwyer (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham Wading River) '25 earned the honor in 2025. The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association, and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. III All-America & Coach of the Year Committee.
Monserrat was an All-SUNYAC Second Team selection following the 2026 season, serving as Oneonta's starting shortstop with 39 starts. He finished with a .958 fielding percentage with 62 putouts, 119 assists, and 22 double plays.
Region All-Defensive selections were eligible for consideration for the 2026 ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Awards. Winners of the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Awards in all divisions were announced on Wednesday, June 17.
Founded in 1945, the American Baseball Coaches Association is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Over 15,000 members represent all 50 states and 40 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include nine divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School, Youth and Travel.
The ABCA started the Regional Defensive teams in 2023.
