MORRISVILLE, N.Y. -- The Oneonta men's lacrosse team scorched Morrisville on the road for a 21-5 SUNYAC victory, Friday evening. The Red Dragons had 12 different players record a point with 11 scoring at least one goal. Junior
Thomas Hnis (Smithtown, N.Y./Kings Park) led the team with five goals and four assists for nine points, while senior
Jamie O'Neil (Bath, N.Y./Haverling) totaled seven points off three goals and four assists. The win improved the Red Dragons to 5-5 this season, 2-0 in the SUNYAC, and the Mustangs dropped to 6-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Junior
Aidan Boyle (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) finished the game with three goals and two assists for five points. Sophomore
Jackson Forsberg (Somers, N.Y./Somers) and freshman
John Corvino (Goshen, NY/Goshen) both recorded their first collegiate goals. Both Forsberg and freshman
Ryan Babikian (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) ended with two goals, and sophomore
Cody Sharp (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) had a goal and an assist.

Pete Owens commented. "Some guys that work hard in practice everyday got to play tonight. Those moments really help our team cohesion. We're 2-0 in the league, that's the biggest thing."
Morrisville scored the first goal of the game at 13:25 in the opening period, then Oneonta responded with nine straight goals to go up 9-1 with 12:51 to go in the second quarter. O'Neil and Hnis both had two goals and two assists during the Red Dragons stretch, while Boyle scored twice and had an assist. Senior
Shakim Carr (Brooklyn, N.Y./John Dewey) recorded his fourth goal of the season with an assist from Sharp. After Hnis scored on a man-up goal, he assisted Babikian on an extra-man opportunity. Following Boyle's second goal of the game, senior
Sergio Ilario (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) scored his first goal of the season to give Oneonta their eight-goal lead.
The Mustangs recorded a pair of goals to cut the deficit to 9-3 at 5:28 in the second, before the Red Dragons closed out the half with five goals to take a 14-3 lead into the break. Junior
Ryan Lussier (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) started the run with his third goal this year at 2:22, while Hnis scored twice in the final moments, including one in at the final second of the quarter. Boyle recorded his hat trick and 12th goal of the season, and sophomore
Riley Royals (New Hyde Park, NY/Herricks) tallied his 10th goal of the year.
Sharp fired in his sixth goal of the season for the only goal in the third quarter to give Oneonta a 15-3 lead heading into the fourth.
Morrisville scored twice in the fourth, including the first goal of the period, however Oneonta rattled off six into the back of the net for the 21-5 final. Hnis fired in his SUNYAC-leading 36th goal of the season with an assist from O'Neil, his league-leading 34th assist this year. The Red Dragon senior had an open lane towards the net for his 15th goal on the season, then Babikian beat the Mustang keeper up high for his 13th goal of his freshman campaign.
Forsberg recorded his first career goal with 8:44 to play when he brought the ball behind the goal, shook off his defender and wrapped back around for a shot that snuck between the goalie and the post. The Somers, N.Y. sophomore scored his second goal four minutes later when he had the ball at the top of the attack zone and sprinted past his defender for a shot just in front of the crease.
Corvino scored his first collegiate goal and the final goal of the game off an assist from senior
Jason Monopoli (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) with 2:16 to play. Monopoli recovered a ground ball on the left side of the attack zone and sent a pass to Corvino at the top of the zone. The Oneonta freshman took a couple steps in with the ball before he ripped it past the Mustangs keeper for the goal.
Sophomore
Mark Restivo (Merrick, NY/Sanford H. Calhoun) started the first 51:16 for the Red Dragons and finished with 10 saves for a .714 save percentage. Senior
Ryan Collins (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) played the final 8:44 and recorded one save for a .500 save percentage. Sophomore
Hunter Busch (Babylon, N.Y./Babylon) caused two turnovers and collected three ground balls, and junior
Johnny Terrana (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown East) also picked up three ground balls and caused a turnover.
Oneonta was on fire on faceoffs and won 22 of 29. Junior
Nathan Nurse (Brooklyn, N.Y./Uncommon Collegiate Charter) won 9 of 11 faceoffs and collected five ground balls, while sophomore
Sean Grimes (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y./Croton Harmon) was 9-for-12 and gathered four ground balls. Senior
Tyler Carroll (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) went 3-for-5 with two ground balls and freshman
Gavin McGrath (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River) was 1-for-1 on faceoffs.
Blake Dunton started the first 52:56 in goal for Morrisville and totaled 11 saves for a .367 save percentage. Nathan Weise played the final 7:04 and had one save for a .333 save percentage. Noah Tyler led the Mustangs with three goals and an assist for four points.
The Red Dragons are back in action on Monday, April 6, for a non-conference contest on the road against Skidmore at 4 pm.
