ORANGE, CA. -- The Oneonta softball team fell in their doubleheader against No. 18 nationally ranked Chapman, Friday afternoon as their California Spring Break trip continued. Chapman took game one, 8-0, in five innings, then Oneonta held a 3-0 lead heading into the fifth inning of game two before Chapman went on a rally for an 11-3 decision in six innings. The Red Dragons moved to 2-10 overall, and the Panthers improved to 18-5 this season.
Oneonta 0, Chapman 8 (5 Innings)
Chapman gained a 5-0 lead in game one after the first inning. The Panthers scored three on RBI singles and the other two runs on a triple.
The host team added to their lead with one run in the third, fourth, and fifth innings for the 8-0 final. Chapman scored on a sacrifice fly in the third, a double in the fourth, then a fielder's choice in the fifth.
Senior
Abigail Silliman (Rensselaer, N.Y./Columbia) was the lone baserunner for the Red Dragons in game one when she worked a two-out walk in the top of the second inning.
Senior
Anna Torgersen (Chester, NJ/Mendham) (2-3) was tagged with the loss after pitching 0.2 innings and allowing five runs on five hits. Sophomore
Bridget Barry (East Patchogue, N.Y.) pitched 3.2 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits.
Anabell Hinojosa (8-1) pitched the complete game for Chapman, struck out six and walked one.

The Red Dragons put themselves up three after the first inning in game two. Silliman worked a one-out walk then sophomore
Anna Spicciatie (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) singled up the middle. After Silliman and Spicciatie advanced on a passed ball with two outs, senior
Jaime Cardello (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) smacked a double on a 1-2 count to score both runners. Next up was freshman
Ella Kean (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) and she lined a single to right field to bring home Cardello.
Oneonta kept the three-run advantage in their favor heading into the fifth inning. In the bottom half of the fifth, the Panthers scored two with a single up the middle.
In the bottom of the sixth, Chapman recorded nine runs for the 11-3 final. They scored four runs on a couple of Oneonta mishaps, three runs on RBI singles, and two runs on a double.
Cardello finished game two 1-for-2 with two RBI, while Kean went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Spicciatie ended 1-for-3 and scored a run.
Freshman
Caitlin McTiernan (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph by the Sea) (0-3) received the loss after pitching 4.0 innings, striking out two, and allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits. Barry pitched 1.0 inning and allowed three unearned runs.
Rose Malen (10-3) pitched the complete game for the Panthers, struck out 10 and allowed three runs on three hits.
Oneonta wraps up their California road trip with a doubleheader at Claremont-Mudd Scripps starting at 3 pm eastern, 12 pm pacific.
